LG’s 83-inch OLED TV, the 83C1, will debut in South Korea and the US this month. In South Korea, the list price was set at 10.9 million won ($ 9,630).
LG is the first TV manufacturer to introduce an OLED TV with an 83-inch display. The 83C1 is also the largest 4K OLED TV in the industry.
The latest television expands LG’s OLED TV range, which already includes 48, 55, 65, 77 and 88-inch models. The 88-inch model is an 8K resolution TV.
According to LG, the 83C1 has advanced features including 4K high frame technology to provide a better viewing experience while gaming and exercising. It was one of the winners of the Innovation Award at the Consumer Electronics Show 2021 and received the award in the gaming and video display categories.
LG, the world’s leading maker of OLED TVs, is hoping its 83-inch TV can boost sales of premium TVs at home amid the pandemic-induced trend.
According to market researcher Omdia, LG’s OLED TV shipments rose 116 percent to 792,000 units in the first three months of 2021, the best performance in a first quarter.
Omdia had previously forecast that the global OLED TV market will hit 5.8 million units this year, up from 3.65 million units last year. It also expected OLED televisions to account for 10 percent of the global TV market this year in terms of sales. (Yonhap)
